Oobleck!

Oobleck is science, oobleck defies the rules, oobleck is gooey and fun, oobleck is messy! Growing up my mom NEVER let us make oobleck at home because it would get everywhere. I found a way to keep it mess free!

What you will need:

  • large plastic tub or container
  • corn starch
  • water
  • food coloring

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of corn starch
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 4 drops of food coloring

Mix it all up and BAM, you are done!

What is special about this?

Oobleck is so cool because it takes on the form of both a solid and a liquid! If you go straight down to hit it or touch it, it is a solid. If you pick it up or leave your finger on it, it is a liquid! If you roll the bowl around it looks like a solid. Kiddos are fascinated with this stuff for a good while. When they are done playing, put it in an airtight container and throw it in the fridge. Next time you get it out it just needs to be mixed again and it’s ready to go!

Trick:

Put this in a larger container and take it outside onto the grass or the sidewalk. We just made sure and played over the bowl and did a lot of fun things with spinning the bowl and poking it with things!
